The Zabaikalsky Krai Development Corporation is participating in a satellite event of the 6th Congress of Young Scientists, which is taking place from June 24 to 26 in Chita.
This large-scale scientific congress is dedicated to countering the negative effects of permafrost and creating systems for the early detection and prevention of wildfires. The official portal of the Decade of Science and Technology, Nauka.rf, emphasized that the selection of Chita as a satellite site in 2026 confirms the strategic importance of Zabaikalsky Krai for Russian science and highlights the need to unite scientists to address the region's pressing issues.
"Science is the main driver for attracting major investors. In Zabaikalsky Krai, it addresses their applied challenges in protecting infrastructure in permafrost conditions and wildfire suppression technologies. The more resilient a region is to natural risks, the more favorable the conditions for implementing new projects and attracting capital. Today, more than 60 leading national experts are working on these issues," noted Sergey Shashkov, Deputy Head of the Zabaikalsky Krai Development Corporation. The significance of the event for the region was emphasized by Alexander Osipov, Governor of the Zabaikalsky Krai:
"The Zabaikalsky Krai is a territory where young scientists can implement the most ambitious projects. We have unique natural conditions, active production facilities, and a mineral resource base. The Congress satellite event in Chita will allow our researchers to showcase their expertise and propose solutions that the region truly needs."
Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Denis Sekirinsky addressed the participants with a welcoming speech. He noted that the satellite events of the Congress of Young Scientists have become an important platform for addressing pressing issues and launching new projects in the field of scientific and technological development in the country.
More than 60 experts from 25 Russian cities arrived in Chita. The scientific community faces two major challenges: creating a permafrost monitoring system, which is rapidly changing under the influence of climate processes, and developing high-tech solutions for the early detection and prevention of wildfires. The event provided a platform where fundamental science met the real economic and environmental needs of the region, and the solutions discussed could form the basis for further development of the Zabaikalsky Krai's investment potential.
The 6th Congress of Young Scientists will be held from November 25 to 27, 2026, at the Sirius Federal Park. This large-scale event will bring together leaders of Russian science, government representatives, industrial partners, and businesses, as well as young scientists, engineers, and students from more than 100 countries.
